Rainy Saturday

Hey everyone!

I know it has been a little bit since my last post but I had my first exam which went ok, not as well as I wanted but overall ok. Next one will be better! So we have a tropical depression hanging around which has only brought us rain but I don't mind because my days have been spent in the barn. Again the barn is my study spot. I'm hoping to get a picture of the barn to post, maybe tomorrow. So an update with my life/school work....
I have been working on my very first patient for the past 3 weeks, that is my cadaver. The first day I was supposed to go in I was so scared because I had never seen a body before never mind dissect one. But when you think about the fact that this is a great opportunity that these people have given me; they want me to learn and become a good doctor as their last act on earth. I am extremely thankful for the opportunity but the labs are LONG. I go to lab to dissect for approximately 4 to 5 hour sessions, and the human body is amazing and complicated all at the same time. One thing that is difficult is all of the adipose tissue (aka Fat) that the body has in EVERY location! One day post lab I decided I would never have a cheeseburger again because of all the adipose tissue I cleaned, and I haven't yet but it didn't stop me from having a cookie with my subway the other day!
I have been studying for this week coming up. I have a histology lab exam on friday, and I have a global exam on monday and then I have my anatomy practical on monday as well. All of this has made my life pretty much the same as always. Oh, great news the other day someone told me that Dominica was on Man, Woman, Wild, the TV show that has a couple surviving in a desolate place...that place is my new home go figure! Here is the link to one piece of the episode if your interested in watching. I got mail this week, I received wonderful letters and a package which brightened my day, well after I waited in line for the customs agent to look through it and then charge me for what was inside, but that didn't stop me from being the happiest person because I got letters; so thank you!

So my friend Casey down here who is my friend Mike's fiance is going to apply to be on the show Say Yes to the Dress, over April break from medical school they are flying up to NYC to go to Kleinfelds because she is a huge fan and dreams of having her dress from there! I really hope she gets on the show because I'll totally have to tag along. Well I think I've bored you all enough, again I love getting all of your emails and updates and I am so sorry I take forever and a day to respond. Please forgive my tardiness :-). I leave you with a picture of a histology slide and the link for Man, Woman, Wild.

Till next time.....

  1. Stephanie,
Sounds like you are in the groove and enjoying Medical School. I know you will go great on your exams next week. Someone once said "The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything they just make the most of everything that comes along their way" Remember you live in a Rain Forest, take time and dance in the rain! Love you Stephanie Jean
